Anko Privacy Policy


Introduction and purpose

This Policy describes how Anko Retail Inc (“we” “our” or “Anko”) complies with our obligations under the privacy or data protection laws of the jurisdictions where we operate.


Policy application

This Policy Statement applies to all team members. Team member means all employees, managers, directors, agency staff and independent contractors engaged on any basis including on a full-time, part-time, casual or temporary basis and regardless or not whether any industrial instrument applies to the team member.

  1. What this policy covers


Anko values the privacy of individuals and their personal data, and has established the following Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use and disclose information about our customers, suppliers (and their employees), employees and prospective employees. It also explains how to contact us if you have any questions about the management of your personal information or would like to access the personal information we hold about you.


We”, “us”, “our” and “Anko” means Anko Retail Inc., its affiliates, subsidiaries, successors, and assigns including those companies listed in the Schedule at the end of this policy.

This policy does not apply to the practices of third party companies that Anko does not own or control, to third party websites (even if linked to our website), or to individuals that Anko does not employ or manage.

  1. Personal information collected

Personal information: We may collect your name, home or work address, delivery address, phone number, payment, credit and billing information, and e-mail addresses. We may also collect demographic information, which may be aggregated or de-identified, such as your zip code (or postal code), age, gender and shopping preferences, interests and favorites.

We may also collect additional information about customers, including purchase history, location and preferences, either directly, or through our business partners.

We also collect information about:

  • suppliers and their employees, including business name and address, contact details, and employee names, birthdates, addresses and working conditions (including hours and salaries); and
  • current, potential, and former employees (including names, addresses, contact details, employment and academic histories and the names of their referees).

Ordinarily, customers can purchase goods from us without disclosing personal information, but in this situation, we may not be able to provide you with the full range of services available.

Website information and tracking technologies: When you visit our websites, we may also collect information about your device, including your IP address.We also collect information about your use of our website using cookies. You can choose to decline cookies, but if you do so, you may not be able to fully experience our online interactive features.

Children’s privacy: This website and our online services is not intended for children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13, and in the event that we learn that a child under the age of 13 has provided information on our website, we will delete that information as soon as possible.


  1. How we collect and store information

Where it is reasonable and practicable to do so, we collect your personal information from you directly when you purchase products or services from us, or enter into arrangements with us, provide feedback/complaints to us or register your details with us or one of our business partners.

Depending on the product or service we provide to you, we may collect your personal information from third parties. Information about suppliers’ employees is usually collected from the supplier. Information about potential employees is usually collected during the recruitment process, and information about current and former employees is collected from the employee, references, managers, observations, customers, background checking services, and metrics relevant to performance and customer satisfaction.

If you are an agent who has, or is entering into, an arrangement to provide products and services on our behalf, or if you have purchased goods or services from us on layby, we may also collect your personal information from credit reporting agencies. By providing your personal information to us, you confirm that you have reviewed this Policy and consent to the collection and use of your personal information as specified.

We take commercially reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. Your personal information is stored on password-protected servers located in access controlled secure locations.

Anko may retain your personal information as long as necessary for the provision of the services, internal analytical purposes, or to comply with its legal obligations, resolve disputes and enforce agreements (e.g. settlement). The criteria used to determine the retention periods include: (i) how long the personal data is needed to provide the services and operate the business; (ii) the type of personal data collected; and (iii) whether we are subject to a legal, contractual or similar obligation to retain the data (e.g., mandatory data retention laws, government orders to preserve data relevant to an investigation, or data that must be retained for the purposes of litigation or disputes)

We collect and use your information to:

-      sell, deliver, administer, improve and personalise our products and services;

-      source products for sale, transport products and ensure our suppliers are compliant with our ethical sourcing policy and applicable labour laws and standards;

-      process payments and credit checks, to provide layaway services and to deal with your feedback or complaints and provide refunds and discounts;

-      better understand our customers’ requirements and preferences, conduct product and market research, personalise and improve our service and to provide offers that are of greater interest or benefit to you;

-      to communicate with you and to operate the customer service centre;

-      undertake and administer promotions, competitions, in-store events, marketing activities, direct marketing, database compilation, analysis of trends and demographics and other marketing or promotional activities;

-      manage our stores, supply arrangements and inventory and administer our websites;

-      protect against fraud and theft;

-      complete other transactions with you or on your behalf;

-      in connection with the investigation, establishment, and assertion of legal rights;

-      as required by competent governmental authorities;

-      recruit and assess future employees; and

-      maintain and update our records.


From time to time, we may also use your personal information to send you targeted news, offers and promotions of our products and services. If you do not wish to receive these communications you can opt-out by contacting us at the address listed within the contacts section below.

  1. Disclosure of personal information

Third Party Service Providers, Agents, Contractors, or Partners: We do not share personal information with unaffiliated third parties for those third parties’ own purposes. We may, however, share personal information with our third party service providers, agents, contractors, or partners in connection with services that these individuals or entities perform for, or with Anko. This includes companies who are responsible for parts of our service delivery – including to other companies in the Wesfarmers Group, to delivery companies, external call centres, suppliers and manufacturers, mail houses, recruitment firms and third-party fulfilment centres.

As Required by Law or for the Protection of Others: We may disclose information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, such as to respond to a subpoena or similar legal process, to protect against misuse or unauthorized use of our website, to limit our legal liability, and to protect our rights or to protect the rights, property, or safety of visitors of this website or the public, and to otherwise cooperate with law enforcement or regulatory authorities.

Business Transfers: We may transfer or share a copy of personal information about you in the event that Anko goes through a business transition, such as a merger, being acquired by another entity, or selling a portion of its assets. Nothing in this Privacy Policy is intended to interfere with the ability of Anko to transfer all or part of its assets to an affiliate or independent third party at any time, for any purpose, without any limitation.

From time to time, we may provide aggregated and de-identified information to other business partners for various purposes.

California Privacy Rights: Under California Civil Code Section 1798.83, California residents are entitled to request information relating to whether a business has disclosed personal information to any third parties for the third parties’ direct marketing purposes. That notice will identify the categories of information shared and will include a list of the third parties and affiliates with which it was shared, along with their names and addresses.

Data Subject Access Requests: Depending on where you reside, you may also have certain data privacy rights which may be subject to limitations and/or restrictions. These rights may include the right to: (i) ask for a copy of your personal information to be provided to you; (ii) ask that your personal information be corrected or updated; (iii) request the deletion of your personal information; and (iv) express your preference regarding the sale of your personal information to third parties.   If you would like to make any of the requests above, please submit your request using the contact information below.


  1.  International data transfers

We may occasionally transfer your personal information, credit information (and credit eligibility information) to organisations located overseas, for example where:

  • we use service providers based overseas;
  • you have requested a product or service that involves an international element;
  • we need to comply with foreign legal or regulatory requirements; or
  • an international payment has been made.


We require overseas recipients to use personal information only for the purpose provided and to implement strict confidentiality and data protection arrangements.

       VII. Web analytics

Anko is working with Google to improve online shopping experience across devices. If you are signed into your Google account when you use Anko Online, then Google may also combine data from your Google account with data about your use of Anko Online, in order to help identify you to be shown relevant Anko advertising online, across your devices. This is done using a Google service called Remarketing with Google Analytics, which links Google Analytics cookies (set by Anko) with Google advertising cookies (set by Google). We may revise or supplement this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make any substantial changes in the way we use or share your personal information, we will notify you by posting a notice on our website, prior to the change becoming effective. We encourage you to refer to this Policy on an ongoing basis so you understand our current privacy practices.

If we have not responded to you within a reasonable time, you are entitled to make a complaint to your local data protection authority.
